As I stand at the threshold of embarking on the next phase of my academic journey, the allure of doctoral studies summons me like rays to a rising sun. This journey has been one paved with insatiable curiosity, unyielding determination, and an unwavering commitment to personal and intellectual growth. As I reflect upon the experiences and choices that have led me to this pivotal moment, I am reminded of the transformative power of education and the infinite possibilities that lie ahead.

From an early age, my insatiable curiosity served as my guiding compass. I remember spending hours engrossed in frivolous play that transported me to realms both real and imagined. Each day that expired felt like my journey of uncovering a hidden treasure was coming to an end, but expanding my understanding of the world and fueling my desire to explore the unknown was exhilarating. This intrinsic curiosity was nurtured by poverty which encouraged me to question and seek answers, to challenge assumptions, and to delve deeper into subjects that captivated my mind.

As I transitioned to doctoral studies, my academic pursuits evolved from the pursuit of knowledge to the cultivation of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The once detested realms of education became my playground for intellectual exploration and my outlet for success. I grappled in the intricate struggle of theory and application, where classroom discussions and hands-on projects synergized to broaden my perspectives. Yet, it was in the agony and suffering of challenges that I discovered my capacity to adapt, learn, and innovate. A particularly poignant memory is when I received an IEP in elementary school and subsequently, autonomously refused services and tested out.

My passion for Education emerged as a natural extension of my interests and experiences because I did not have anything as a child. My father, who is and always will be my hero, did not have much to offer me, but wisdom. However, the more I delved into education, the more I realized its profound implications on shaping my future. Michele Rhee helped me embark upon not only fortifying my knowledge but also illuminated the vast potential for innovation and positive change. It was then that the idea of doctoral studies germinated within me – the desire to not only grasp the complexities of this field but to contribute to its advancement.

Doctoral studies, to me, represent more than an academic pursuit. They symbolize an opportunity for profound personal transformation and societal impact. I am drawn to Long Island University because of its distinguished faculty, cutting-edge research opportunities, and collaborative ethos. The prospect of engaging in research that could contribute to change exhilarates me, envisioning a future where my passion converges with purpose.
